Published Research
In May, 2006, the American Society of Neuroimaging published the results of a study funded by an unrestricted grant from Bristol-Myers Squibb Medical Imaging. Dr. David Lewis, director of Nuclear Medicine at Harborview Medical Center, received the Norman D. Poe Memorial Award for top scientific abstract in the Physician/Scientist category for this research.
The study results suggested that HANDLE® therapy is effective for patients with chronic traumatic brain injuries, improving brain activity from hindbrain to forebrain. In the study, researchers employed SPECT imaging with five HANDLE clients that were between 4 and 23 years post injury. In addition to increased brain activity during both rest and activation, all five reported improved vision; four reported improved hearing, attention and problem solving skills, self-awareness, and enhanced energy; and three reported that their pain decreased.
